When it comes to climate protection managers, the city of Schongau would like to join forces with Peiting and Altenstadt.

But people are skeptical about the partners they are considering.

Peiting's town hall chief is annoyed with his Schongau counterpart.

Peiting

- When Peter Ostenrieder read the report in the Schongauer Nachrichten last Friday about the request of the Schongau city council to hire a climate protection manager together with Peiting and Altenstadt, the mood of the Peiting mayor sank considerably. This was mainly due to the statements of his Schongau counterpart Falk Sluyterman (SPD).

He had reported to the city council that the Peitinger town hall chief was not expected to give much approval for the project.

“But Peter Ostenrieder does not decide that alone, but the steering committee and then the municipal council,” Sluyterman added at the meeting last Tuesday.

Like all other committee members, the town hall chief raised his hand in the end for a joint approach by the three municipalities in matters of climate protection managers.

Mayor was irritated and reacted

"To read that, I was very astonished," Ostenrieder (CSU) is now irritated.

Because on Wednesday, when he met Sluyterman at the district assembly, he sounded very different.

In a conversation, in which Altenstadt's mayor Andreas Kögl was present, the Schongau town hall chief signaled that he did not consider such a position necessary and that it would be "okay if Peiting and Altenstadt would block it".

It is not the first time that Ostenrieder is angry about statements in the committee of the neighboring city.

A year ago he publicly countered the criticism from Schongau of the planned construction market settlement, accusing the city and its mayor of "overshot".

The whole thing is the job of the local council

This time, too, both parties do not seem to come up with a green denominator.

Ostenrieder considers hiring a climate protection manager to be completely unnecessary.

Advancing climate protection is the task of the municipal council, he says you don't need an additional staff position that costs money.

As proof, the town hall chief refers to a number of measures that have already been initiated in the past.

The latest examples are the citizen's mobile, which should help reduce individual traffic in the market town from next year, or the energy-efficient renovation of the ice rink.

Altenstadt's town hall chief is also skeptical

The town hall chief emphasizes that the topic of climate protection is present at every meeting of the municipal council. “To be honest, I don't see where a climate protection manager can bring advantages.” Especially since they already have a strong partner on board with the Oberland energy transition. Incidentally, he is not alone in this opinion, Ostenrieder emphasizes and refers to corresponding discussions with the parliamentary group chairmen of the CSU, SPD and the citizens' association.

Altenstadt's mayor Andreas Kögl is also skeptical of the advance from Schongau. It is questionable whether a climate protection manager really brings that much added value. There is already an energy working group in Altenstadt, and many projects such as converting the lighting to LED have already been initiated in the local council. A third local heating network is currently being developed, says Kögl. Ultimately, however, the municipal council decides. In the next meeting, the mayor of Altenstadt wants to discuss the subject behind closed doors.

Ostenrieder has the same plans in Peiting.

Should the councils in the market town and in Altenstadt reject the joint climate protection manager as part of the inter-communal cooperation, the city of Schongau would be alone.

If they stick to a climate protection manager, then after a few years you can exchange experiences, so Ostenrieder: "Then you can see whether things are going better than the business development agency."
