Software giant Microsoft announced today (Monday) that a new group it monitors and is apparently operated by Iranian or pro-Iranian elements has focused most of its efforts against shipping companies around the world and also against American and Israeli security companies.
The group, which is considered relatively new to Microsoft because it only began to emerge as a suspect in July 2021, is known by the company's experts as DEV-0343 and seems to have at least in some cases tried to hack into the OFFICE 365 accounts of those Israeli and American companies, including those responsible for satellite production. Tim, radars, and emergency communication systems.
Among other things, the company has also acted against seaports in the Persian Gulf and various shipping companies operating in the Middle East.
In this context, it should be noted that Iran has been blamed by Israel and the West for at least some of the recent attacks against various tankers and sea crews in the region, and in one case caused the killing of two crew members aboard a tanker operated by an Israeli-owned company.
"Less than 20 of the targets that tried to break them were successfully hit (in terms of crackers)," Microsoft said in a statement, "but the team continues to hone its capabilities and refine its attacks."
