Belgrade-Sana

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, stressed the need for the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement to activate their historical relations and contribute to restoring balance to international relations in order to achieve a more secure world in which peace, justice and cooperation prevail, and based on respect for the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of states in application of the principles approved in its founding meeting 60 years ago.

In Syria's statement to the high-level meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement in the Serbian capital Belgrade today, on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of its founding, Mikdad said: Since the Bandung and Belgrade conferences, in which Syria had the honor to participate with 24 other countries, our countries have agreed to achieve a more secure world in which peace, justice, solidarity and cooperation prevail. It is based on respect for the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity of states, equality among them, non-interference in their internal affairs, refraining from aggression or the use of force and threatening them, and on resolving disputes by peaceful means. International peace and security did not read well these principles, which do not deviate from the principles established by our founding fathers of the Charter of the United Nations, including Syria, which requires the countries of the Movement to reactivate their historical relations in all fields for the benefit of their countries and peoples.

Al-Miqdad indicated that the simultaneous holding of the important meeting at this stage in which international relations are witnessing more political polarization due to the rapid changes in the international arena is the best evidence of the movement's vitality and its ability to contribute to restoring balance to international relations to achieve security and stability in the world.

Miqdad pointed out that some countries are still invoking the so-called “international coalition to combat ISIS terrorism” to implement their geopolitical agendas in Syria and the entire region, which the Turkish occupier exploited to implement its decimated colonial ambitions by bringing in terrorist groups from all over the world in an attempt to destroy Syria and put pressure on it through its practice. Water terrorism by cutting off water from the Allouk station for the 28th time in a row and reducing the Euphrates River inflow, which led to humanitarian disasters that affected the lives of millions of Syrians, which constitutes a clear violation of the principles of the United Nations Charter, the provisions of international law and the relevant international and bilateral agreements.

Mikdad reiterated that Syria will confront with full force all forms of American, Turkish and Israeli occupation, aggression and terrorism, stressing the restoration of its occupied lands and its continued exercise of its constitutional right to combat terrorism and to protect and preserve its land and people by all means guaranteed by international law.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates stressed that Syria is committed today more than ever to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement that were approved in the Bandung and Belgrade conferences despite the terrorist and economic war waged against it and the magnitude of the great challenges afflicting the world, the most important of which is the spread of terrorism regionally and internationally, noting that terrorist acts The crimes committed by “ISIS” and “Al-Nusra Front” with all their names and other organizations and entities associated with them in Syria and in many parts of our Arab countries and the countries of the world are clear evidence of the exacerbation of the phenomenon of terrorism and its reaching unprecedented limits in criminality. Although some countries have “re-humanized” some of these organizations to cover up their failed policies in a desperate attempt to raise the morale of all their clients in the world.

Al-Miqdad explained that after some well-known countries were unable to achieve their goals through military and terrorist intervention in some countries of the Non-Aligned Movement under illegal and flimsy pretexts, they proceeded to escalate their economic terrorism in Syria by adopting the so-called “Caesar Law” that affects the lives of Syrians and impedes humanitarian work Relief and relief for international organizations working in Syria, stressing the condemnation of Syria in the strongest terms, the imposition of unilateral coercive measures by the United States, the European Union and other countries on it and on some countries of the Non-Aligned Movement, including Iran, Venezuela, Nicaragua, the Democratic Republic of Korea, Cuba and Belarus, in addition to Russia to achieve political goals and agendas.

Miqdad reiterated Syria's right to restore the occupied Golan and its firm and principled position to support the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state on their entire national soil, with Jerusalem as its capital, and to guarantee the right of return for refugees in accordance with UN Resolution 194 of 1948.
