Miqdad meets with a number of heads of delegations participating in the Conference of the Non-Aligned Movement in Serbia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, met today with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, Titi Antonio, within the framework of the high-level meeting on the occasion of the sixtieth anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement.

During the meeting, they discussed ways of consolidating the bonds of solidarity between the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement and how to develop and strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions in international multilateral forums.

The Angolan minister expressed his country's solidarity with Syria in its war on terrorism, expressing deep concern over the spread of terrorism in the African continent.

For his part, Minister Miqdad stressed the need to strengthen cooperation between the two friendly countries in all fields to serve the interests of their peoples.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates also met with Deputy Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin, head of the delegation of the Russian Federation, where the two sides stressed the need to continue strengthening bilateral relations and implementing the directives agreed upon by President Bashar al-Assad and President Vladimir Putin during President al-Assad's recent visit to Moscow.

Minister Miqdad stressed the importance of the achievements achieved by Syrian-Russian cooperation in various fields, especially in the war on terrorism, noting at the same time the participation of the Russian Federation in the Belgrade Summit as an observer state in the Non-Aligned Movement, which enhances the feasibility and effectiveness of the movement.

For his part, the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister expressed his satisfaction with the level of relations between the two countries and cooperation in the field of international organizations, including the Non-Aligned Movement and the United Nations.

Minister Miqdad met with the head of the South African delegation to the conference, Alvin Botis, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the two sides discussed developing relations between the two friendly countries and the importance of implementing the agreements signed during the recent visit of the Vice President of the Republic of South Africa to Damascus and revitalizing the joint committee to implement what was agreed upon in various fields.

For his part, Minister Miqdad expressed Syria’s gratitude to the leadership and people for the role played by South Africa in supporting Syria, especially in its war on terrorism during South Africa’s membership in the Security Council, pointing to the challenges that Syria is facing as a result of the Turkish, American and Israeli occupation of parts of its lands and the unilateral coercive measures that imposed by Western countries.

He also met with Minister Miqdad Khalif Abdi Omar, Minister of Trade and Industry in Somalia, where the Somali minister explained the developments in his country and its keenness to deepen its relations with Syria and its support for it in all international forums.

In this context, Minister Miqdad affirmed Syria's support for the territorial integrity and people of Somalia.

Minister Miqdad also met with Eritrean Foreign Minister Osman Saleh and they discussed the situation in the Horn of Africa and the consolidation of security and stability there.

Minister Saleh condemned the terrorist war on Syria and expressed Eritrea's desire to develop its political, economic and cultural relations with Syria, stressing the importance of exchanging support in international and regional organizations.

Minister Miqdad explained the achievements that Syria has achieved in its war on terrorism and stressed that Syria is capable of ending the Turkish and American occupations of parts of its lands.

Minister Miqdad also gave an explanation of the effects and repercussions of the unilateral coercive measures imposed by the United States and Western countries on Syria.

The meetings were attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Private Office Department, Dr. Ammar Awad, Chargé d'Affairs on behalf of the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in Belgrade, and Dean Hamdan from the Syrian Embassy in Belgrade.
