How high is the radiation exposure from the existing cell phone network for the people of Hattenhofen?

An expert opinion was prepared for this.

Result of the measurements: Everything within the framework.

Hattenhofen -

For several months there has been discussion in the town about a 30 meter high radio mast for the cellular network. This is to be built south of the railway line in order to improve the mobile network in trains. The client is Deutsche Funkturm GmbH, a subsidiary of Telekom. Against this background, the local council wanted it in black and white: How much radiation do the people of Hattenhofen have to withstand at the moment? The engineering office commissioned by the committee comes to the conclusion that the exposure to radiation is currently between 0.1 and 0.2 percent of the maximum permitted amount.

The engineering office measured at six points in the municipality: at Schlossgasse, Eichenstrasse, in front of the kindergarten, in the Ludwigseiche area, in Benkerweg and at the intersection of Frühlingsstrasse and Kriegelmeierweg.

First, partial immissions were determined, i.e. the exposure to radiation in four mobile phone networks.

The proportions measured per network were added up, which resulted in the total immission.

Maximum 0.2 percent of the limit

The values range from 0.08 (Eichenstrasse) to 0.18 percent (Benkerweg) of the permissible limit value.

“This means that all measured values are well below the limit values according to the 26th Federal Immission Control Ordinance.

A critical situation would only be reached with a percentage of 100 percent for the relative immission.

This would be the case, for example, if the safety distance specified in the site certificate were not reached, ”writes the engineering office about the results.

Shielding measures are unnecessary

The experts should now measure again when the controversial radio tower is in operation.

However, they do not expect any major fluctuations: "With the further expansion with a new location, it can be expected that, depending on the location of the radiation sectors and the measurement positions, there will be a slight increase in radio emissions." the office: “A permanent stay, even in all sensitive places such as kindergartens, living rooms or offices, is possible.

Special metallic shielding measures for living rooms or public buildings are not required according to the current legal regulations. "

However, the mayor and the municipal council are still planning an information event with representatives of the Deutsche Funkturm GmbH.

A date for this has not yet been set.

The municipality has hardly any legal options

Legally, the municipal council hardly has any means of preventing construction: the district office as the higher-level authority will approve the project, even if the council rejects it.

The district authority even has to allow the radio tower: it is a privileged project in the outdoor area.

However, some citizens in Hattenhofen felt they were poorly informed by the community and are unhappy with the planned location and the height of the mast.

A citizens' initiative was also formed.
