The global shortage of chips that has developed due to the corona epidemic in the world continues, and even a year after the graphics cards and the new generation of consoles were released, there are quite a few consumers who have not yet been able to get their hands on a video card or PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X \ S.

Those who did succeed were probably forced to pay an exorbitant price than the recommended price.

Here comes Sony, which has decided to try to contribute a shoulder to the global effort: According to various reports, the company plans to set up a hardware manufacturing plant in cooperation with the Taiwanese company TSMC, one of the largest manufacturing companies in the world, which also manufactures chips for various Apple devices.

The plant is slated to be set up in Japan, and it is reported that the Japanese government is willing to donate and invest about $ 800 billion (about $ 7 billion).

The new plant is designed to be built in the province of Komemoto in southern Japan, and is not designed to produce and supply hardware just for the gaming industry: car manufacturers, cameras and all other products running on a CPU have also been hit by the shortage in the past year. No response was received from Sony or TSMC, but already last July the hardware manufacturer expressed a desire to set up a factory in Japan. It will reportedly start operating in 2024.

Industry experts are trying to guess when the pressure will be released and the supply of consoles and hardware will return to what it was. Phil Spencer, CEO of Xbox noted that in his opinion the shortage will continue into 2022, while spokesman for automaker Toshiba noted that in his opinion the crisis will continue well into 2023.

Sony has admitted that the shortage is creating a serious problem for the supply of PlayStation 5 consoles and the entire industry, and they are examining the options that can be addressed.

Apparently opening a new manufacturing plant is part of the move that the company is planning, but although it is not an immediate solution to the problem, it is the beginning of a process that will hopefully make things easier down the road.
