Abstract.
He had been summoned a few days earlier to the PJ of Montpellier as part of the investigation into "Hail", a man suspected of at least three murders and six rapes between 1986 and 1994.
Cornered, François Vérove, a retired 59-year-old policeman, empties his bank accounts and evaporates without notifying his relatives.
He committed suicide during the night of September 30 to October 1, at Grau-du-Roi in the Gard, and left a letter in which he confessed to having committed "unforgivable crimes" in the past.
The analysis of a DNA sample taken after his death confirms this: this grandfather above all suspicion has indeed been the wanted criminal for 35 years.
Source code recounts this affair in two parts with two journalists from Le Parisien: Denis Courtine from the Île-de-France investigation unit and Damien Delseny, head of the police-justice service.
Second part.
