Hungry and barefoot, that's how they arrive deported to Guatemala 4:19
(CNN Spanish) -
The National Civil Police of Guatemala located 126 undocumented migrants in a truck with a container at dawn this Saturday.
The vehicle was abandoned at kilometer 114 of the highway that leads to Nueva Concepción, in the department of Escuintla, according to the security force on its Twitter account.
They are 106 Haitian citizens, 11 from Nepal and 9 from Ghana, according to the authorities.
Almost 19,000 migrant children have crossed the Darien jungle in 2021, the year with the highest number in history, UNICEF warns
Police said they received a complaint about the abandoned truck and that, upon arrival at the scene, they heard "screams and blows from the container."
The migrants received "humanitarian care" and were later transferred to shelters of the Guatemalan Migration Institute (IGM), to be later returned to their countries of origin, authorities said.
