More than two weeks ago four men flee from a closed psychiatric ward, now another man is on the run from the open area.

Security is being discussed again.

But can both cases be compared with one another?

Weinsberg - After another escape from the psychiatric clinic in Weinsberg in the Heilbronn district, there is again a dispute over the safety of the facilities. The SPD sees itself reinforced in its criticism of the conditions by the new incident. The Ministry of Social Affairs, on the other hand, clearly rejects the allegations and accuses the party of creating insecurity out of "reflexes by the opposition and against their better judgment".

The latest escape in Weinsberg is by no means about an escape from the security area as it was a few weeks ago, said Minister of Social Affairs Manne Lucha (Greens). Rather, the patient did not return to the clinic after relaxation measures. "These easing steps are firmly agreed with the courts within the framework of the therapeutic concept with the aim of reintegration into society," said Lucha. "It is unfair to mix escape and outburst in public communication."

After the outbreak of the four men more than two and a half weeks ago, the SPD demanded that the five penal institutions across the country be checked. Prison expert Jonas Weber has now reiterated this demand and said that the new incident did not contribute to people's feeling of security. Rather, he underlined the need to put the precautions in these facilities through their paces. “The open days in Weinsberg must come to an end,” said Weber.

The fugitive patient was housed in an open ward and has been wanted since Saturday. "Open management means that the ward is not locked around the clock," said a spokesman for the clinic. It is true that “close monitoring” is still part of the security concept, also to quickly identify rule violations. Basically, however, a distinction should be made between an escape or "escape" from an open ward and an escape from a closed ward, said the spokesman.

Around two and a half weeks ago, four men broke out of a closed ward of the clinic, ready for a film.

One of them was arrested the day after the outbreak.

The other three are still on the run.

In Weinsberg, according to the ministry, there had not been an outbreak from the secured area since 2005.

However, patients keep escaping from psychiatric hospitals.

Last year there were 47 such cases in 1252 patients nationwide in Baden-Württemberg, according to earlier information from the Ministry of Health.
