"Titan": A violent, intimidating and repulsive film, but can not be erased from the brain Israel today

2021-10-12T06:56:44.044Z

The film that won the Cannes Film Festival provides a very difficult experience to watch, but it is hard not to appreciate the talent of its creator, Julia Docorno

A serial killer named Alexia has sex with a car and gets pregnant - this is the plot starting point of "Titan", her film that is repulsive, repulsive and impossible to erase from the mind of Julia Docorno ("Na").

As you may have guessed, Docorno's film, which won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival (and was only the second film directed by a woman to be honored), is not for everyone.

His protagonist, as mentioned, is a ruthless psychopath, and is replete throughout with very difficult-to-watch scenes designed to make you close your eyes tightly and ask yourself what you did that you deserve.

However, even though I pretty much hated it while watching it, "Titan" can't be undone so easily (and believe me I tried).

Dokorno is just too talented.

She has a well-developed sense of style and some interesting gender ideas that she plays with, and the violent and unconventional provocation she has concocted here draws her inspiration from extreme classics, such as David Cronenberg's "Crash" and David Lynch's "Erase Head."

Meanwhile, one can also not ignore the phenomenal acting displays that Dokorno squeezes out of its two main actors: Agatha Russell who plays Alexia, Wansen Landon who plays an aging firefighter who develops an extraordinary relationship with her later in the film.

Russell, who is in her first cinematic role, is required to do some particularly demanding acts here, and her physical appearance changes completely during the absurd and disturbed journey that Dokorno undergoes.

It's hard to believe it's the same actress.

Landon, for his part, is the lost soul of the film.

His paternalistic and grief-stricken presence is responsible for the most delicate moments of "Titan," and his connection to Alexia, which is slowly becoming something that can be called a "love story," is actually the heart of the matter.

"Titan" did not make me laugh or move me.

In my opinion it works more on the intellectual level than on the emotional level, and as I mentioned, while watching it mostly made me disgusted and made me want it to end.

But in the days that followed he did not let me.

On the one hand, there is a situation where the guys at Cannes got a little carried away when they awarded him the most prestigious award that the world of artistic cinema has to offer.

On the other hand, Docorno has definitely created an exciting, dangerous and crazy movie all over your head that you will never forget, even if you want to.

It's hard not to appreciate it.
