According to the previous figures, 1508 young people are starting their studies on the Martinsrieder and Großhaderner campuses of the Ludwig Maximilians University (LMU) at the start of the winter semester.

Since the exceptional corona situation has not yet ended, some of the events will continue to take place digitally.

Martinsried

- The lecture period begins on Monday, October 18. 812 students start their medical studies, 260 with chemistry and pharmacy and 436 young women and men with biology. The number of freshmen is roughly the same as in the winter semester 2020/21. Around 68 percent of new students are female this year.

At the three faculties, some of which are based in Martinsried and Großhadern, preparations are currently underway for another exceptional corona semester - albeit not to the same extent as a year ago. The LMU would like to offer “as many face-to-face events as possible”, says spokeswoman Katrin Röder. "In principle, the 3G rule also applies at the LMU: If the 7-day incidence of new corona infections exceeds 35, the 3G rule applies, which means that only vaccinated, recovered or tested people are allowed to take part in face-to-face classes . The 3G regulation does not apply to tests, ”explains Röder. Since the seven-day incidence in the Munich district has been well above the limit for some time, the regulation should come into effect. On Monday there were 621 corona cases per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days.

The 3G rule applies in buildings

Specifically, at the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy, the semester will take place, if possible, "again with full presence", writes the Faculty on its homepage. In any case, the practical courses should be carried out. If the pandemic situation should deteriorate significantly during the winter, the faculty will adapt accordingly. In biology, the lectures are mostly planned digitally, internships are both digital and face-to-face. In medicine, "internships and seminars in the first stage of study should largely take place in attendance at the Biomedical Center in Martinsried and also in the Pettenkoferstraße area in Munich, lectures largely as distance learning events," explains Katrin Röder. The buildings on the Martinsried campus will be reopened in compliance with the 3G rule.A rapid test station is available to all students on the premises.

In June, a private person probably released fish in the water basin in front of the Martinsried Biozentrum.

Since the basin was not designed for keeping fish, a number of fish perished a short time later, although the LMU arranged for fresh water to be supplied and circulation pumps installed for ventilation.

First measurements of oxygen and other parameters did not reveal any abnormalities at first.

In the meantime it has been established that “the water quality was probably impaired by a water layer with unfavorable values and due to insufficient mixing,” reports Röder.

The dead fish were removed and nothing abnormal has been observed since then.

The remaining fish are still in the pool.

Its climate is therefore closely monitored and precisely prepared for the winter time.
