The Directorate of Agriculture in Daraa Governorate today approved a plan to plant 80,000 hectares of rain-fed wheat in the new agricultural season, compared to 77,265 hectares during the last season.
The head of the Department of Planning and International Cooperation in the Directorate, Engineer Hassan Al-Ahmad, told SANA reporter that the area of rainfed wheat increased at the expense of the irrigated area, due to the lack of water stock and the transfer of areas of irrigated wheat to the rainfed, noting that the Directorate of Agriculture plans in the 2021-2022 season to plant an area of 9257 hectares with wheat. irrigated compared to 10,500 hectares planted last season.
Al-Ahmad added that the plan for the next agricultural season also includes planting 27 thousand hectares of the barley crop, compared to 27,790 hectares in the plan of the last season, pointing out that the Directorate adopted a new mechanism for the barley crop, which includes stopping its cultivation in the second stability area and compensating the area within the third and fourth stability areas.
