The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Faisal Al-Miqdad, stressed that some countries assert that seizing the lands of other countries is self-defense, although the United Nations Charter is clear in this regard and rejects this interpretation. Some countries also claim that unilateral coercive measures are their right, while emphasizing The Charter contradicts these allegations.
Mikdad said during the ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of the Defense of the United Nations Charter in Belgrade: As we implement our agreements and decisions, we dream of a better world that we want to see for ourselves and for others, a world that depends on the Charter of the United Nations.
Al-Miqdad added: What we need is general discussions about the challenges we are facing now because of the biased interpretations of the United Nations Charter or because of the policies of some countries to dominate the world’s resources and ignore the rights of peoples in order to preserve their self-interests, as the Charter faces many distortions.
Miqdad stressed that the purpose of this group is to defend the Charter and protect the United Nations from Western intentions that want the United Nations to be a tool in its hand to suppress the aspirations of developing countries to preserve their sovereignty and independence.
