The DAV section Starnberg has had tough years.

First the mudslide in 2019 at one of their huts, then the pandemic.

In the meantime, some normality has returned to club life.

Starnberg

- Andreas Graser, chairman of the Starnberg DAV section, is just happy that an annual general meeting is taking place this year and that he was able to see at least some of the members in person again. "The last meeting was in October 2019," says Graser. At that time, the power plant of the Hohenzollernhaus in the Ötztal Alps, one of the two huts of the Starnberg section, which was buried by a mudflat, was the big topic. "Thank God that spared us this year," said the chairman in an interview with Starnberger Merkur. However, the next challenge was not long in coming. Just eight months later, the DAV had to cancel all tours and events due to the corona pandemic. “The club's life was idle for several months.” The lack of offers was also reflected in the number of members.“Normally we grow between four and seven percent every year.” This year, 160 have joined the approximately 2500 members, but: “Just as many have left us,” says Graser. A tendency that almost all 358 DAV sections would have noticed.

Despite the pandemic, the youth sector has felt a significant increase.

“We had to set up two new youth groups,” says the chairman.

Around 70 children and young people between the ages of ten and 18 have been meeting regularly in the clubhouse since school began.

“It is important that the community spirit of the children and young people is formed and that they take responsibility.

That is the be-all and end-all for the team climbing later on. ”Thanks to the enthusiastic young mountaineers, some parents also joined the club.

"You shouldn't underestimate youth work as a draft horse."

Three instead of 50 tours - few overnight stays in mountain huts

Before Corona, the section offered around 50 different tours per year for every level. “From climbing to hiking, there was something for everyone,” says the chairman. This year only three organized tours took place - the tenants of the two huts in the section noticed that too. The overnight stays in the Hohenzollernhaus and in the Hörnlehütte near Bad Kohlgrub have decreased significantly since the pandemic. “Many of them took rather small tours in their private lives,” says Graser. “In addition, the conditions were very strict. The occupancy has been greatly reduced. "

During the annual general meeting in the clubhouse, the members also agreed to an increase in the annual fee from 65 to 69 euros.

"These are fees to the main association for specific climate protection measures and the expansion of digital offers," explains Graser.

The contribution remains the same for families, children and young people.

A lot has also changed in terms of personnel in the DAV Starnberg.

The new secretary is Astrid Süßmuth, the new third board member is Thomas Criegee, the new treasurer Christina Brümmer and the new press officer Jochen Deutschebaur.
