The coronavirus in Thuringia has recently been rampant, especially among children and adolescents.

The CDU parliamentary group takes this as an opportunity to criticize the Ministry of Education.

Meanwhile, the state government also seems to be alarmed.

Erfurt - In view of the high incidence of corona among children and adolescents, Thuringia's state government wants to commission the scientific advisory board to issue a special report.

"With the special report, we want to know how much the increase in the incidence of infections is broken down by age group and how it is associated with symptomatic illnesses or hospitalizations," said Prime Minister Bodo Ramelow (left) on Tuesday after the cabinet meeting.

It is important to look at the current situation together with the advisory board.

It was previously known that the number of infections, especially among younger people, has recently risen sharply.

In the age group of 5 to 14 year olds, the seven-day incidence - i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within one week - exceeded 290 on Monday.

The CDU parliamentary group accused the Ministry of Education of having lost control of the infection process in schools.

"We are approaching a catastrophic situation," said parliamentary group leader Mario Voigt.

He criticized a "stubborn adherence" to the previous corona rules.

"If 15 federal states test, and only Thuringia again affords a special route, no one should be surprised if Thuringia again has the highest incidence values."

At the schools, at the so-called basic level, i.e. with low incidences and low hospital exposure, no corona tests are offered in schools.

Tests are offered from warning level one, but are not compulsory.

A test is only compulsory in the highest warning level 3.

The education policy spokesman for the CDU parliamentary group, Christian Tischner, said the high incidence shows a loss of control. He spoke out in favor of PCR pool tests "in order to finally get a clear picture of the situation". The chairman of the state government's scientific advisory board, Petra Dickmann, defended the school regulations. It was to be expected that the incidence would be higher in those age groups where it was not possible to vaccinate, Dickmann told the German Press Agency.

"We also see that despite the higher incidence rates among children and adolescents, we have no increases in hospitalizations - we do not see them in the case of serious illnesses." Children played practically no role in the severe courses of Covid-19.

Dickmann emphasized that as many of the people as possible who can be vaccinated should also be vaccinated.

“And in particular, the clinically vulnerable, that is, those who are really at risk of becoming seriously ill, must be given special protection.

Children are not one of them. "

According to the state's new handling regulations, restaurateurs can decide to only let in those who have been vaccinated and recovered - and then have many more guests.

But the so-called 2G rule is controversial in the industry.

17 percent of minors vaccinated against Corona

A good four weeks after the Corona vaccination recommendation for 12 to 17-year-olds by the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko), only 17 percent of this age group are fully vaccinated in Brandenburg.

The Ministry of Health reported this on Thursday upon request.

In the group of 18 to 59 year olds, 58.1 percent are fully immunized, in the age group 60 plus it is 78.3 percent.

The Ministry of Education has been exposed to ongoing criticism for months because of its corona test concept in schools.

The factions of the red-red-green coalition had repeatedly called for a stricter test regime.

For the current rules, the department relied, among other things, on the recommendations of the scientific advisory board.

A government spokesman said on Tuesday that with the significant increase in infections among children and adolescents, there was a new situation that should be subjected to a new assessment by the advisory board.
