After a 38-year-old woman died in an apartment fire in Frankfurt, the criminal police are investigating the case.
"Based on initial findings, it can be assumed that the arson was negligent," the authority announced on Tuesday.
The fire broke out on Monday night in an apartment on the fifth floor of a residential building in the Sachsenhausen district.
Frankfurt - Almost 70 residents had to leave the apartment building in the south of the city for the extinguishing work.
Firefighters with breathing apparatus had discovered the woman in the apartment.
Even a dog could only be rescued from the apartment dead.
The police put the property damage on Tuesday at several hundred thousand euros.
The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
