Demi Lovato: the term "alien" is derogatory to aliens

Demi Lovato stated in an interview with Pedestrian that the use of the term "alien" to describe beings from another planet seems discriminatory.

Demi Lovato takes the side of aliens.

The singer and actress who identifies as non-binary has a docuseries on the Peacock platform titled "Unidentified with Demi Lovato" in which she explores what life there may be beyond this planet.

In an interview with Pedestrian, Lovato explained that she does not believe that beings from another planet intend to harm humans.

"I really think if there was something out there that wanted to do that to us, it would have already happened," Lovato said.

"But I think we have to stop calling them 'alien' because this is a derogatory term for anything. That's why I like to call them ET."

The word "alien", when used in reference to immigrants or those who come from other countries, has become controversial and considered dehumanizing by advocates of immigration.

Lovato told the publication that the purpose of the series is to give "an understanding of how much we need to take care of our planet and how much we need to learn to expand our consciousness."

"I think the world is becoming a more open place," added the star.

"Slowly, but surely, I think we are making progress. And little by little we are making it. But, you know, any progress is progress!"

CNN reached out to representatives for Lovato for further comment.
