- The market for cars with alternative drives is picking up speed: according to the ADAC, electric cars accounted for around 17 percent of new registrations in Germany in September, and plug-in hybrids of just under 12 percent. Consequence: The demand for charging facilities, including public ones, is increasing. The Murnauer Gemeindewerke have so far been waiting with one system (two times 22 kW) in the underground car park in Lederergasse and another one in Bahnhofstrasse, which also has a fast charging station. In the future, electric car drivers will have significantly more opportunities to charge the battery. The works committee specified five further locations at which the infrastructure for electric vehicles will be expanded. To do this, one taps into a funding program through which 90,000 euros flow. The total investment, it was said in the summer,is around 135,000 euros.

E-car charging stations: these are the new locations

New charging stations are being built at the municipal utilities at Viehmarktplatz 1, at Murnau train station, at the biological station in Moos, at the parking lot by the lake in Murnau Bay and in the Seehausen community.

A parking lot by the lake is also being considered for the neighbors.

Discussion about charging stations in the moss and at the lake

The majority of the works committee was in favor of these locations.

Instead of the column at the Biological Station, three members wanted a charging facility at the Volksfestplatz, which Stephanie Neumeir -castle (Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen) had brought into play as an alternative.

With a view to the locations in the moss and at the lake, she argued that she didn't want people to “drive down there in their car” - and that a charging facility would also be set up there for them.

Mayor Rolf Beuting (ÖDP / Bürgerforum) argued differently: Think above all of day-trippers who, if they don't want to do without a car, should at least travel electrically.

In this case, facilities at taxi stands are out of the question

Josef Bierling (CSU) referred to a conversation with a taxi operator in Murnau, connected with the question of whether the charging points at the train station could be placed in such a way that they could be used by the waiting vehicles at the taxi stand.

Bierling wanted to know whether this would be “generally possible” or counterproductive in terms of the subsidy.

Plant manager Karl Steingruber made it clear: “Publicly funded charging stations must be publicly accessible” - so they must not be located at a taxi stand.

The edge of the fairground would also be suitable for charging stations

Wolfgang Küpper (ÖDP / Bürgerforum) asked whether one should not prefer places where cars can be parked for a long time.

Steingruber described the festival site as "already suitable".

However, he recommended that a possible charging station be taken out of service and covered when the Murnauer Wiesn is running in order to protect the system from damage.

The fast charging station on Bahnhofstrasse is said to be "very well received".

Beuting explained that it is not assumed that drivers always fully charge their e-cars in public places, since “the price of electricity is significantly more expensive there than at home”.

Downtimes of two to three hours are sufficient - this is "ideal for a trip to the moss".

New fast charging stations in town: Several applicants looking for a location

The end of the flagpole has not yet been reached with the five new charging stations.

The mayor predicted that “sooner or later the entire place will have to be equipped with charging stations at parking lots”.

Corporations are also involved in this business.

Steingruber said several applicants were looking for a location in the community.

Eight rapid charging stations with an output of 150 kW would come to Murnau.

These should be placed on thoroughfares.

The Volksfestplatz, said Steingruber, could be approached like the park area on Forsteranger “with the next funding program”.

Alternative found for controversial carport

On the other hand, the controversial plans to install a massive carport with a photovoltaic system and charging facility directly on the neat building of the municipal works on the Viehmarktplatz are finally a thing of the past. In June, after a controversial discussion, they only found a 6: 5 majority in the works committee. Now the committee unanimously overturned the old resolution. "We went inside again," said Beuting. Steingruber also explained that the matter had been looked at again “because of the discussion” - a building permit seemed by no means certain. Result: An alternative was found. The existing photovoltaic systems on the building yard and fire station no longer deliver the desired income and should be replaced. In this way, the performance can be increased and a charging station can also be connected. A new carport is then no longer required.
