Füssen - How can the situation for cyclists in Füssen be improved?

According to its own statement, the faction of the Free Voters (FW) has been thinking intensively about this for years.

She has now submitted three specific proposals to the city administration in a written application.

The latest meeting of the city council showed that the administration already has some ideas on its radar.

Specifically, it is about three demands that the group has now made in a written application to the administration.

On the one hand, the cycle path from Füssen to Weißensee is to be widened and more clearly separated from the pedestrian path up to around 200 meters before the entrance to the village.

On the other hand, the parliamentary group calls for a cycle path on the south side of Innere Kemptener Straße.

The parking spaces there are either to be painted or to be set up on the northern side of the street.

The new cycle path is to connect to Luitpoldstrasse and lead from west to east via Maximilianplatz to the traffic lights at the hospital.

In order to avoid structural changes, pictograms or a protective strip should be painted on, as in Reutte, the city council continues to write.

In any case, the following applies: "The signposting of the cycle paths must be optimized."

In a third point, the parliamentary group requests the introduction of a shuttle bus that runs every 20 minutes and goes to all neuralgic points in the city.

"The aim should be to keep all public transport bus traffic as far away as possible from the Kaiser-Maximilianplatz and Luitpold roundabout," the letter says.

Extensive planning

Head of the office, Peter Hartl, pointed out in his statement that the expansion of the cycle path to Weißensee would not be feasible anytime soon.

Since the State Building Authority in Kempten and the Lower Nature Conservation Authority at the District Office have to be included, there is no avoiding extensive and therefore time-consuming planning.

Hartl also gave little hope of a quick implementation with the introduction of a shuttle bus.

During the information days on the further development of the Morisse area, it became clear that the main concern of the public was the traffic problem, explained the head of the office.

The people agreed that individual traffic had to be reduced in order to reduce traffic jams and allow traffic to flow better.

However, this problem is very complex, so that a separate concept must be found.

Hart announced that this should be worked out in the coming months, whereby the ideas of the Füssen people from the citizen participation should also flow into Morisse.

The main office manager informed us that the suggestions in the Innere Kemptener Straße could be implemented much faster and with less effort - for example, with new lane markings or a new arrangement of the parking spaces.

At this point, FW City Councilor Jürgen Doser stepped on the brakes.

"I would even take a step back," he said.

His group was primarily concerned with presenting a “blueprint” and demonstrating that the situation was to be improved.

He suggested first convene the working group (AK) "Radverkehr" and discuss the issues there.

"I would like to invite colleagues from the political groups and committed citizens," he said.

He met with open ears from Mayor Maximilian Eichstetter (CSU).

The broadest possible consensus on the matter is all the better, said the town hall chief, who suggested that representatives of the authorities should also be included.

In any case, the AK "Radverkehr" has only met once so far.

Dr.

Martin Metzger (BfF) appealed to think above all about the needs of local cyclists.

The debate should not primarily deal with tourism issues such as charging stations for e-bikes.

"This has to be about those who want to get from A to B in Füssen," he emphasized.

According to the resolution, the proposals of the FW should now be included in the further traffic planning.
