(CNN) -

The Nicaraguan government denounced on Monday what it considers a "continuous interference" in internal affairs by the United States ambassador in Managua, Kevin Sullivan.

The complaint was made known through a press release signed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, although without specifying a specific fact or statement by the diplomat. "We demand that Mr. Sullivan cease his covert attacks and his hypocritical greetings, disguised as a diplomatic courtesy that he abandoned long ago and that has been, and is, an example of the continuous, perverse and detestable invasive interference of the United States in our Nicaragua, interventions abusive and criminal that we have denounced and will continue to denounce, "says the note.

In an unusual tone, the Nicaraguan Foreign Ministry warned: "Refrain, Mr. Sullivan, from continuing to violate our national harmony and renounce wanting to impose your vulgar, creeping, aberrant, insolent, ignoble, abominable and decadent Yankee policy that we once declared moreover, it is not pleasant for Nicaraguans, "the statement warns.

CNN asked the United States Embassy in Nicaragua for a comment on the complaint from the Foreign Ministry of that country, but so far they have not responded.

The document was published in official media a few hours after Ambassador Sullivan greeted, through his social networks, the digital newspaper Confidencial for its 25th anniversary of independent journalistic work.

"Congratulations, Confidencial, for your 25 years defending the democratic values of freedom of the press and independent journalism," Sullivan said on his Twitter account.

Confidencial is directed by the journalist Carlos Fernando Chamorro -currently in exile-, brother of former presidential candidate Cristiana Chamorro and Pedro Joaquín Chamorro, who have been detained since June and face charges of alleged money laundering and abusive management, among other crimes. , of which they plead innocent.

The facilities of the Confidencial newsroom, as well as the audiovisual study of the program “Esta Semana” in Chamorro, were raided by the National Police in December 2018 and last May.

Both maintain a critical position against the government of President Daniel Ortega.
