Munich - Although Sebastian Kurz resigned as Chancellor after the serious allegations and thus from the very front row, there is rumbling in Austria's politics.

This Tuesday, the opposition plans in a special session of parliament to denounce the abuses of the ruling party ÖVP and to introduce motions of no confidence.

However, it lacks the majority required for this.

Meanwhile, the 35-year-old former Chancellor was unanimously elected as the new ÖVP parliamentary group leader in the National Council in a secret ballot.

August Wöginger, who is now his deputy, follows shortly.

The previous head of government, who is facing corruption allegations, will be sworn in on Thursday and will not take part in parliamentary sessions until then.

It already seems certain that it will fall softly.

There are also fears that Kurz could continue to pull the strings as the shadow chancellor - just in the background.

Briefly no longer Chancellor: Successor Schallenberg considers allegations to be "wrong"

His successor as Chancellor, the former Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg, who was considered a loyal follower, already drew the opposition's displeasure when he labeled the allegations raised against Kurz as "false". Herbert Kickl, head of the right-wing FPÖ, then scolded: "In my opinion, this is an unbelievable fall from grace." Because the new head of state is questioning the investigations of the Ministry of Justice.

Kickl also announced a vote of no confidence in the entire cabinet because, in his view, the Greens would continue to support the ÖVP's corrupt power system.

In contrast, the SPÖ is only planning a motion of censure against Finance Minister Gernot Blümel, the background being its proximity to Kurz.

The ÖVP boss is accused, among other things, of using taxpayers' money to steal positive media reports and embellished surveys.
