Neufahrn

- It was around 1 a.m. on Tuesday when a fire broke out in the basement of a high-rise building in Neufahrn.

For the more than 100 firefighters, it was necessary, on the one hand, to extinguish the flames in the basement and, on the other, to evacuate the 68 residents who were in the eight-story building.

While the flames had been extinguished quickly, the development of smoke became more and more of a problem, reported District Fire Chief Manfred Danner when asked by FT.

It was imperative to hurry to get the residents out of the building.

While some emergency services were using turntable ladders to gain access to the apartments via the balconies, respiratory protection equipment rang the residents from the apartments.

Sometimes the door had to be kicked in with force, after all, most of the residents had already slept.

There wasn't time to pack a few more things or change clothes.

After fire in high-rise: residents housed in elementary school

Some of the residents were only dressed in pajamas or bathrobes, but the BRK took them to the gym of the elementary school on Fürholzer Weg in Neufahrn.

They spent the rest of the night there - not knowing what would become of their apartments.

Nobody was injured during the operation, Danner told the FT.

However, three people suffered slight smoke poisoning, but they did not want to be brought to a hospital by the many rescue vehicles waiting, according to Danner.

Neufahrn: Rescue workers on duty until 7 a.m.

The emergency services were on site until around 7 a.m. to ventilate the apartments and measure carbon monoxide pollution.

It is unclear whether all residents can go back to their apartments.

“Several apartments were smoky,” said Danner.

What exactly was the cause of the fire is still unclear.
