After leaving Afghanistan, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov announced that NATO is seeking to redeploy its forces in Asia in addition to sending refugees to the region.
Sputnik quoted Lavrov as saying during the meeting of the foreign ministers of the countries participating in the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building in Asia in Kazakhstan, "We see attempts to heat up the situation and undermine the existing interaction mechanisms between countries... Narrow structures and military blocs that were created with the logic of the Cold War and the containment policy, in turn, contribute to that".
"In this regard, it can be noted that NATO sought after Afghanistan to redeploy its forces to other regions, whether in Central, South or Southeast Asia, and at the same time send large numbers of Afghan immigrants to these regions," Lavrov added.
Relations between Russia and NATO have recently been tense due to the strengthening of the military alliance's presence near the Russian borders, which Moscow considers a violation of the basic document of relations with the alliance.
