Life expectancy in Berlin and Brandenburg fell slightly during the corona pandemic.
For men, the average life expectancy in 2020 in both countries was 0.6 years lower than in 2019, according to data published on Tuesday by the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB).
In the capital, life expectancy for men was 78.1 years and in Brandenburg 77.5 years.
Wiesbaden - There was also a decline among women.
There, life expectancy in Berlin in 2020 was around 0.4 years lower than in 2019 and thus 83.3.
In Brandenburg, the life expectancy of women decreased by 0.4 to 83.5 years in the same period.

More daycare children in NRW
The number of daycare children in North Rhine-Westphalia has increased over the past ten years.
In March 2021, 631,000 children under the age of six were cared for in day-care facilities or in publicly funded day-care, as the State Statistical Office announced on Friday.
That is 28.5 percent more than in 2011 when the number of children in care was 491.

"However, detailed death statistics show that Covid-19 had a significant impact on life expectancy in many countries in 2020." On a national average, life expectancy fell between 2019 and 2020 by around 0.3 to 76.6 years for men and by 0.1 to 83.3 in women.
Before the pandemic, life expectancy increased by an average of 0.1 per year.
