Corona in Bavaria: The change in life expectancy is greater for men than for women

The Federal Institute for Population Research in Wiesbaden has examined the effects of the pandemic * on life expectancy and published the results on Tuesday, October 12th.

Accordingly, life expectancy in Bavaria fell by 0.46 years for men and 0.24 years for women.

This means that men live to be 79.28 years old on average.

Experience has shown that women are higher - they live an average of 83.79 years.

With these figures, the Free State is in the lower third of the federal states in Germany.

In addition, the decline in the comparison of 2019 and 2020 has almost doubled compared to the national average, according to the information from the institute in Bavaria.

Only one West German state has even worse values ​​- Bremen.

Here, however, the numbers must be viewed with caution, as larger fluctuations are possible due to the smaller population.

In addition to Bremen, three eastern German federal states have poorer life expectancy values.

In Berlin, Brandenburg and Saxony, the numbers fell more sharply than ours.

One country is even emerging as a winner - at least in terms of life expectancy - from the pandemic.

In Schleswig-Holstein, both men and women live an average of 0.11 years longer.

In an international comparison, Germany is also doing very well.

In other countries such as Italy, Spain, Poland and the USA, life expectancy has fallen more sharply.

There it fell by more than a year in both men and women.
