The corona pandemic has depressed life expectancy in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia.
Nowhere in Germany did the expectation fall as sharply as among men in Saxony, according to data published on Tuesday by the Federal Institute for Population Research (BiB).
In 2019 the value was 78.2 years, last year it was only 77.5 years.
Wiesbaden - The average life expectancy for women also fell in the same period by 0.5 to 83.6 years.
According to the information, a stronger decline was only recorded in Bremen.
In Saxony-Anhalt, life expectancy decreased by 0.4 to 76.4 years for men and by 0.2 to 82.8 years for women.
In Thuringia, both sexes lived an average of 0.1 years shorter, men accordingly 77.7 and women 83.5 years.

"However, detailed death statistics show that Covid-19 had a significant impact on life expectancy in many countries in 2020." On a national average, life expectancy fell between 2019 and 2020 by around 0.3 to 76.6 years for men and by 0.1 to 83.3 in women.
Before the pandemic, life expectancy increased by an average of 0.1 per year.
