According to calculations by the Federal Institute for Population Research, the corona pandemic had less of an impact on the life expectancy of people in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania than in other parts of Germany and Europe.
As the institute announced on Tuesday, life expectancy in Germany fell again for the first time between 2019 and 2020 after decades of increase:
Wiesbaden / Schwerin - for men by almost 0.3 to a good 78.5 and for women by 0.1 to 83.4 years.
For men in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the researchers calculated an almost constant life expectancy of 77.1 years.
In women it decreased by 0.1 to 83.1 years.
According to the Federal Institute, Saxony, which is particularly hard hit by the corona pandemic, recorded a decline of 0.7 to 77.4 years for men and 0.5 to 83.6 years for women.
In Berlin, Brandenburg and Bavaria, life expectancy for men fell by about half a year.
There, too, the difference was slightly smaller for women.
In an international comparison, life expectancy in Corona times fell particularly sharply in the USA: by around two years.
Measures to contain the corona virus were sometimes only taken hesitantly there, it said.
In Spain the difference was one and a half years, in Poland, Italy and Great Britain about a year.
In Norway, on the other hand, life expectancy increased by around 0.3 years, according to the Federal Institute for Population Research.
Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein in Germany also showed a plus.
