The Malteser Aid Service is expanding a service in the districts of Dachau and Fürstenfeldbruck after the compulsory Corona break that has existed in Dachau for several years: the visiting service with a dog, interested dog handlers who are willing to take their own four-legged friend are wanted To go through training and then to get involved in this service. During the visiting service with a dog, Malteser volunteers visit senior, children's and youth facilities or private households with old people and / or people in need of care with their own - trained - dog.

Dog visiting services can break the lethargy and loneliness of withdrawn people and bring joy to the young, old, disabled and sick. Animals often manage with ease what humans cannot. Dogs in particular are able to touch and move body, mind and soul deeply. People with physical or mental handicaps often show surprising reactions: For example, people with dementia who no longer speak and do not show facial expressions open up and want to touch the animal.

A new project is to be added in the medium term - a Café Malta with a dog: people with dementia need a lot of attention and a familiar environment. Most of them are cared for by their relatives at home. With the Café Malta, the Maltese have been offering sick people at various locations the opportunity to come together in community with other affected people and to be cared for and employed by employees and helpers who have been specially trained in dealing with people with dementia. Café Malta offers its guests: breakfast or afternoon coffee, stimulating activities such as reading, painting, dancing, playing, and resource-oriented care appropriate to the disease. The new model project, which is planned for Dachau, combines the experiences from the BBD with dogs with the Café Malta concept.
