Delivery is expected in the second quarter of 2022.

Purchased in December last year but did not start the injection and was accused of thrombosis risk

The Hong Kong government said in December last year that it had purchased 7.5 million doses of vaccine from AstraZeneca. At that time, a spokesperson for the Food and Health Bureau said that global competition for vaccines is very fierce and the initial supply is expected to be relatively tight.

In April of this year, the Safety Committee of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) issued a statement stating that the vaccine may be related to blood clots, which should be classified as a rare side effect of the vaccine.

AstraZeneca Pharmaceuticals responded to "Hong Kong 01" at that time, stating that the plan will remain unchanged and will continue to work closely with the Hong Kong and Macau governments to provide AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to the citizens of Hong Kong and Macau in accordance with the agreement.

Xu Shuchang, a government expert consultant and chair professor of the Department of Respiratory System at CUHK, said in the "Millennium" in Hong Kong and Taiwan in April that he personally suggested that Hong Kong should not purchase AstraZeneca vaccines.

He pointed out that according to his understanding, the government and the pharmaceutical factory are only preliminary agreements, and they have not yet issued a paper to approve emergency use in Hong Kong.

Xu Shuchang continued that more information now shows that the AstraZeneca vaccine has a protection rate of only about 10% against the South African variant virus, and there is a risk of thrombosis. It is not a good choice, and it is not recommended to buy it for the elderly.
