No high school diploma for corona test refusers?

Because she does not want her daughter, who is in the Q11 at the Weilheimer Gymnasium, to be tested and vaccinated, a Weilheim mother now sees her daughter's Abitur in danger.

Because without a corona test there is no proof of performance.

Weilheim - The children of a Weilheim family have not attended school since last Christmas.

Her mother refuses for her children to take part in the corona tests, which are usually carried out three times a week in schools.

She justifies the reservation against the tests with the fact that "in Bavaria no tests are permitted for healthy people".

But because a negative corona test is currently mandatory for school attendance, the family's children continue homeschooling.

That is not a big problem, says the mother, even if she would prefer her children to be able to attend school.

They are well networked, so that their offspring are not necessarily dependent on going to school to maintain social contacts.

The family has five children, three are still in school, one daughter is in Q11 at the Weilheim high school. Because the daughter does not want to take any corona tests, she is not allowed to attend school - not even if certificates are written that she needs for admission to the Abitur. This means that the daughter will not be admitted to high school, explains the mother. The Weilheim grammar school forwarded the following passage from a letter from the Ministry of Culture:

“In particular, written performance records can only be taken in person and adequately supervised to avoid misunderstandings. The fulfillment of the test obligation is also a prerequisite for this. If this is not done, those affected must be aware that grades, which are a prerequisite for advancement or the acquisition of a school leaving certificate, cannot be acquired. The school cannot relieve those affected of this. "

All parents who do not want to have their children tested must apply for leave of absence.

The school management then decides on a case-by-case basis whether there are reasons that require the child to be given leave of absence from this family.

As a member of the directorate of the Weilheimer Gymnasium says, there is also a discussion with the parents as part of this process, in which it is explained what consequences this step has for the student.

Among other things, it is clearly stated that no proof of performance can be provided if the child does not attend school.

The director of the Weilheim grammar school, Beate Sitek, who processes the applications, says that they consciously accept this consequence.

In addition to the family with the daughter in Q11, there are "a few" other cases in which parents refuse the corona tests for their children.

There is not a large number of test refusers, but still more than is the case at the other schools in the region, says Sitek.

In a meeting on this topic last week, all of your colleagues reported from zero to one case.

“It's a multiple of what's going on at all the other schools in the Oberland,” says Sitek.

You now suspect that there is a network of these parents.

Of 570 students at his school, five are at home because their parents refused to take the tests, says Rolf Schleich, the principal of the Weilheim secondary school.

Basically, she has nothing against corona tests, says the Weilheim mother: "We would have no problem testing our children, but the tests are not approved for them as long as they are healthy." the tests used in schools are copied.

The majority of the package inserts actually state that the tests are intended for people who have corona symptoms.

The corona tests could still be used in schools, the district health department said when asked.

"It is not true that the tests are not approved for healthy people, they have been approved for schools by the Free State of Bavaria," says a press spokeswoman for the district office.

The mother does not want to accept this unquestionably - especially because the tests are still voluntary and those who refused should not suffer any disadvantages.

This was also confirmed by the Bavarian Administrative Court in a ruling in the spring.

She is considering taking legal action: "I find all of this questionable and do not support it."

For Sitek it takes a lot of time to deal with the parents: "Actually, I would prefer to spend this time shaping the community," says the director of the high school.
