At the constituent meeting on Tuesday in Schwerin, the 52-year-old pedagogue was unanimously elected chairman of the nine-member parliamentary group.

She took over the office for the first time in 2016.

Should it come to a red-red alliance, Oldenburg would be one of the first candidates for a ministerial office in the cabinet of Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig (SPD).

However, it has not yet decided on a coalition partner.
