President of the Armenian National Assembly discusses friendship with the Syrian ambassador in Yerevan

The President of the Armenian National Assembly, Alan Simonyan, discussed today with the Syrian Ambassador in Yerevan, Muhammad Haj Ibrahim, the long-standing friendship relations between Syria and Armenia, in addition to issues of common interest.

During the meeting, the two sides reviewed the destructive role played by the Turkish regime in the region and its destabilizing policy, including cutting off water in northern Syria, especially Al-Hasakah, and restricting the population with the aim of bringing about demographic change in the region.

The two sides also stressed the importance of mutual parliamentary visits to give a new impetus to relations between the two countries in various fields, especially the economic field.

Simonyan pointed out the importance of Syria for Armenia, pointing to its hosting of the survivors of the massacre committed by the Ottomans, noting the constructive role played by the Syrian-Armenians in Armenia by bringing them new culture and skills.

In turn, Ambassador Haj Ibrahim reviewed the situation in Syria and its fight against terrorism, referring to the sacrifices of the Syrian Arab Army and the steadfastness of the people that contributed to the recent successive victories over the terrorists.

He congratulated Ambassador Haji Ibrahim Simonyan on his election as Speaker of the Armenian Parliament. He also extended his congratulations to the Armenian people on the occasion of the successful parliamentary elections that took place in Armenia recently.
