The young woman from Kerpen has been standing in front of the Cologne district court for manslaughter since Wednesday.
According to the indictment, the young German is said to have given birth to her "living and viable daughter" in her room in her parents' apartment on the night of April 19, 2021.
Then she cut the umbilical cord with a craft knife.
When the newborn started screaming, the defendant is said to have hit her daughter in the face with her fist, fearing that the screams might wake the parents sleeping in the next room.
But because the child continued to make noises, the 22-year-old pulled a plastic bag over the newborn's head and strangled it around the neck with a mobile phone charger.
She is said to have wrapped the corpse of the baby in a black hoodie and hidden the bundle in the bed box.
The defendant followed the indictment reading crying, her face buried in her hands. A defense attorney's statement then said: “Our client is very shaken by herself. She admits the killing of the child. ”And further:“ She perceives the event as a tragedy that only knows losers. ”Immediately after the birth, the defendant later described when the court asked, she initially had her daughter on her chest "I gave her a kiss on the forehead." But then the child made noises and panic rose in her.
She experienced the killing process “like in a film”, as if she had watched herself over her own shoulder.
“It wasn't me at that moment.
I wanted her to stop screaming, but not for her to die. ”She didn't notice the pregnancy until the turn of 2020/21 and didn't want to admit it.
She concealed the physical characteristics of pregnancy with loose clothing.
However, the prosecution did not want to accept this representation.
She referred to repeated Internet research by the defendants on the subject of pregnancy from summer 2020.
The defense attorneys emphasized that her client kept the pregnancy a secret out of fear of the father.
This is "a choleric type".
The relationship between father and daughter is ambivalent.
"The client did not dare to address problems in the family," said a lawyer.
The 22-year-old's negative experiences with her father after a first abortion at the age of 18 also played a role.
At that time, the father said she should finish her education before giving birth to a child.
In his testimony, the father contradicted the representation of the daughter.
