The Russian Foreign Ministry affirmed that it respects the sovereign choice of the Iraqi people in the parliamentary elections, expressing its hope that a new and comprehensive Iraqi government will be formed as soon as possible.
The TASS news agency quoted the ministry as saying in a statement yesterday that "the successful organization to express the will of the Iraqi people in light of difficult circumstances and looming terrorist threats is a major step towards further progress in improving the country's conditions and achieving political stability and security in it," noting the efforts of the Iraqi government in Organizing polling operations on the entire territory of Iraq.
The general voting for the Iraqi parliament elections took place last Sunday, amid strict security measures and extensive international monitoring.
