Erding - leadership and generation change at the Stadtkapelle Erding: Chairman Walter Dorn did not stand for election after 25 years of successful work.

But he remains on the board.

Many words of thanks, retrospect, views, moments of emotion and a successful generation change: Major changes were decided at the annual general meeting of the Erding City Chapel in the new rehearsal room on the upper floor of the cafeteria in Altenerding.

Chairman Walter Dorn, who had held this office for 25 years, stepped back in the second row.

His successor is the previous secretary Christoph Träger.

Second chairman Ulrike Scharf and treasurer Friedhelm Rickert, who both worked with great dedication for 17 years, did not run for re-election.

Christoph Träger is supported by his new Vice Walter Dorn, secretary Antonia Träger, treasurer Sophie Heilmaier, assessors Moritz Birg and Michael Haslach.

In his review, Dorn said that he once wrote his visions on a beer mat, including the plan to lead the town band to the upper level orchestra and, as a major goal, to get its own rehearsal room.

Under Dorn's chairmanship and the constant support of all those involved, his visions have become a reality.

And much more happened: the audience experienced glamorous and top-class concerts under the direction of the conductor Martin Hirsch, who has worked with the orchestra for 15 years.

In 2014 the town band was awarded the district's culture prize.

In the same year she was given the honor of entering herself in the city of Erding's Golden Book.

She is "the flagship of the city of Erding," said cultural advisor Ludwig Kirmair at the annual general meeting. He certified the departing thorn “persistent and always friendly negotiating skills”. Conductor Hirsch thanked the long-time chairman for his “collegiality, willingness to help at any time of the day or night”. His conclusion on the voluntary work: "Walter, you have achieved a lot."

As a cultural worker, Hirsch looked back on the year of the Corona crisis and found clear words for the situation of many artist colleagues. For many it was "a time of decline and existential decomposition". The conductor thanked the city band with regard to his ongoing contract for the solidarity during the pandemic, in which hardly any activities were possible. He himself used this time of standstill for training and further education, among other things for club management. With regard to the lessons, he reported that there was a “lively life” in the online area and that thanks to the new rehearsal room, the spacious “Sempt Philharmonic”, as Hirsch said with a wink, rehearsals could take place again. To preserve the stock,Hirsch named the rebuilding and the targeted work with the next generation as the timely tasks.

Walter Dorn reported a slight decrease in current membership from 257 to 252 people, 112 active and 140 passive. The long-term path is back to the high school orchestra. Dorn praised the good results of some members in performance tests and emphasized that the youth orchestra was also of great importance. "We have achieved a lot," he said and thanked everyone for their support, explicitly his wife Andrea.

To appoint the outgoing chairman as honorary chairman, with this proposal, CSU City Councilor Walter Rauscher opened doors in the assembly.

Dorn could already prepare "that it will come that way," announced his successor in office, Christoph Träger.

He spoke of "big footsteps" that Dorn was leaving behind, thanked the members for their trust and said: "I look forward to working in the new board of directors." VRONI VOGEL
