Stadtkapelle is back brilliantly

Exactly 602 days - that's how much time had passed since the city band's last big concert.

Presenter and clarinetist Susi Roh had the number ready when she and her musician colleagues were finally able to receive the audience again in the city hall.

The brilliant annual concert showed: the city band has not forgotten anything - on the contrary.

According to the occasion, the first appearance after the long Corona break was not a moderate start. Edward Elgar's grand march “Pomp and Circumstance” formed the opulent prelude to such a program. Conductor Paul Roh had put together a clever mix of the familiar and the surprising. For example, anyone who previously knew Charlie Chaplin primarily as an actor and director found out that evening that the all-rounder has also composed great film music - so abundantly that the town band was able to present a whole cross-section.

Falls, blows, fights, dances and hopeful flirtations - all of this is accompanied by expressive soundtracks, provided it takes place in animated films. “Cartoon Spectacular” was not only a varied item on the program, but also impressively demonstrated the high musical level of the brass band - both in the interplay and in the highlighting of individual groups of instruments.

Only one person never has the limelight to herself. The drummers are always in the shadow of all the excellent trumpets, flutes, clarinets, trombones, horns, saxophones and tubas. And yet without them the framework would be missing, around which the wind sound can grow. So it's good that the town band also has absolute masters on kettledrum, percussion, drums and cymbals. The official program of the annual concert, which had already been postponed twice, concluded with another demanding work - Queen's “Bohemian Rhapsody”, whose legendary front man Freddie Mercury has his 30th anniversary of death this year.

The annual concerts of the town band always include the big stage for the youngsters.

In this case, the junior winds played in the afternoon and the youth wind orchestra in the evening, while the main band delivered their program twice - both times in front of a city hall of the event forum, which was sold out under corona conditions and justifiably enthusiastic.
