An Afghan translator who previously helped rescue US President Joe Biden from a snowstorm in the country has managed to get out of the country along with his family, as have thousands of other Afghans.

The translator, a flute artist, worked for the United States during her presence in the country, and in 2008 he helped rescue Biden, then a senator, and other American lawmakers who were stuck in a snow-covered valley that was exposed to ambush.

Since the country fell to the Taliban in August, he has pleaded for help with the problems in obtaining a visa that would allow him to leave Afghanistan.

Yesterday, according to the State Department in Washington, Khalili and his family "safely left Afghanistan" and then left Pakistan for an unpublished destination.

"They have done so with the cooperation and widespread support of the United States, and we are grateful to many others who have supported it along the way," the State Department said in Washington.

Khalil had difficulty obtaining the special immigration visa granted by the United States to Afghan and Iraqi citizens who cooperated with its forces during the wars it waged there.

After the chaotic retreat of the United States, Khalil turned directly to Biden to save him, his wife and five children: "I trust him," he told the CBB network.

"I trust he can do anything."

Asked about Khalil's condition last month, White House spokeswoman Jen Saki said she thanked him for "helping some of my favorite people get out of a blizzard and all the work he did."

She said at the time that the United States was obliged to evacuate its allies from Afghanistan, amid fears that the Taliban would retaliate against them.
