Driving on diesel has never been so expensive in France.
The price of diesel at the pump reached 1.5354 euros per liter on average last week, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Ecological Transition published on Monday.
That is 3.8 cents more than the previous week.
Over one year, the increase even reached 28%.

The previous record was recorded just before the start of the yellow vests crisis, in October 2018 (1.5331 euros per liter).
A social movement born precisely at the time of the soaring fuel prices.
Soaring oil prices
Since then, the fuel tax has been frozen by the government.
The current increase in prices at the pump is therefore entirely linked to the surge in oil prices, caused by strong global demand, driven by the post-Covid economic recovery.
A benchmark index on the European market, the price of a barrel of Brent (from the North Sea) has doubled in one year, to now stand at just under 84 dollars (73 euros).

Unleaded 95 petrol, less used than diesel, cost on average 1.6073 euros per liter last week.
If it has not beaten its record, dating from 2012 (1.66 euros in April), since last July it has been above its level reached at the start of the yellow vests crisis (1.55 euros).
