Tropical storm Pamela strengthens off the coast of the Mexican Pacific

It is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane by Monday night and make landfall near Mazatlán, Sinaloa, possibly as a Category 3 on Wednesday, moving into northern Mexico and southern Texas in the following days.


Tropical Storm Pamela, which formed on Sunday, has strengthened as it moves off the Mexican coast in the Pacific and is expected to become a Category 1 hurricane Monday night, according to Mexico's National Weather Service.

The center of the storm was located 410 miles (660 kilometers) south-southwest of Mazatlán, Sinaloa, on Monday night and was moving northwest at about 7 miles per hour (11 kilometers per hour).
