Markus Söder from the CSU again publicly questions Union Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet.
But now CDU man Friedrich Merz is wedging against the Bavarian Prime Minister.
Munich / Berlin - There is a huge crash in the Union.
At the state assembly of the Junge Union (JU) in Deggendorf, Lower Bavaria, CSU boss Markus Söder pinned the defeat of the CDU and CSU to CDU chancellor candidate Armin Laschet in the 2021 federal election.
Dispute in the Union: CDU man Friedrich Merz wedges against CSU boss Markus Söder
“It's just like that,” said Söder, “in the end, the Germans wanted a different candidate for chancellor than the one that the CDU and CSU have put forward.
Just as it played a role that we were not entirely sure from the start which strategy we were actually pursuing.
The year 2021 marks a low point in our collaboration.
Friedrich Merz on the Union
Specifically: CDU man Friedrich Merz apparently distributed against the CSU boss.
“The year 2021 marks a low point in our cooperation and our dealings with one another,” Merz wrote in his newsletter on Saturday.
Even the sister parties do not have to be “completely convinced of every decision”, said Merz, but the way they dealt with each other around the Bundestag election was “stylistically, disrespectful and sometimes rowdy”.
CDU and CSU: Markus Söder pokes at Armin Laschet, Friedrich Merz pokes at Markus Söder
“We have a responsibility that goes beyond our parties and beyond individuals and their personal interests in power. Anyone who does not understand this causes more destruction than a lost federal election can do on its own, ”Merz continued. Probably a clear message to Söder and his general secretary Markus Blume, who a few days before the federal election in 2021 had already outlined the scenario of an election defeat under Laschet.
“Hopefully everyone understands the scale of this challenge.
A serious defeat can also be the chance of a good new start, ”said Merz.
He himself failed in the election for party chairman because of Armin Laschet, and supported him rather half-heartedly as part of a so-called future team.
Now it is apparently uncomfortable even for Markus Söder.
At the meeting of the Junge Union, it had already deleted his name from the following sentence after an application: "It is time to form a powerful, fresh team behind our strong workhorse Markus Söder."
