The Russian lower house of parliament, the State Duma, today elected Vyacheslav Volodin as its speaker for the second time, according to the results of the vote organized by the lower house of parliament.
According to the "Russia Today" website, Volodin, who headed the previous seventh formation of the council and was nominated by the ruling United Russia party, received 360 votes out of 421, compared to his rival, the Communist Party candidate, Dmitry Novikov, who received 61 votes.
The elections to the State Duma for the eighth legislative term were held between 17 and 19 September, in conjunction with regional and municipal elections, and remote electronic voting was organized in many regions, including Moscow.
It is worth noting that the Duma is elected for a five-year term through a mixed electoral system consisting of 225 deputies from party lists and 225 deputies in individual districts.
