The United States on Tuesday welcomed the appointment of a new government in Tunisia, saying it was a
"positive step"

In the midst of a socio-economic and health crisis and after months of political deadlock, President Saied invoked on July 25 an
"imminent peril"
to dismiss the government and suspend Parliament before assuming full powers.
Measures denounced as a
"coup"
by his opponents and NGOs.
For the first time in the country's history, the government, which was sworn in on Monday, is headed by a woman, academic Najla Bouden.
But she and her team will enjoy considerably reduced prerogatives after the presidential coup.
