Comprehensive schools have existed in Lower Saxony for 50 years - Prime Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) can no longer imagine the school landscape without them.
"What was still considered a sensation in 1971 and triggered fierce opposition in many places has now developed into a true success story," he said on Tuesday.
The comprehensive schools in the country had brought new ideas on the way, from which the other school types also benefited.
Langenhagen - "I am very happy that the ideological rifts in school politics that have lasted for many decades have been overcome," emphasized the head of government.
The anniversary was celebrated with a ceremony in the Integrated Comprehensive School (IGS) in Langenhagen near Hanover.
According to the Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs, a total of eight comprehensive schools were launched after the 1971 summer vacation: IGS Garbsen, IGS Linden, IGS Langenhagen, Wilhelm Bracke Comprehensive School in Braunschweig, IGS Fürstenau and Heinrich Nordhoff Comprehensive School in Wolfsburg , KGS Osnabrück-Schinkel and KGS Neuenhaus, which was repealed in 2007.
