Now he is supposed to change hands.

Laage / Berlin - The civil part of Rostock-Laage Airport is to be privatized.

The Berlin Zeitfracht Group wants to develop it further as an additional logistics location, as the three municipal shareholders of the airport and Zeitfracht announced on Tuesday.

The plan is to build a logistics center in which air freight and road transport can be closely linked.

The decision about the sale of the airport must now be made by the shareholders - the cities of Rostock and Laage as well as the district of Rostock.

Several media had previously reported about it.

So far, the airport has received 1.8 million euros annually from the shareholders.

One million euros comes from the country.

The Air Force Wing 73 is based in Laage. The air force owns the airport. Rostock-Laage-Güstrow Airport GmbH can use the infrastructure and handle civil air traffic. As a spokesman for the Air Force said, there has been a partnership in the past. “We are assuming that things will continue to run smoothly and in partnership with a possibly different partner in the future.” Air force pilots are trained at the air base. Around 30 “Eurofighter” fighter jets are currently stationed there.

"Zeitfracht will continue to actively promote the diversification of the company and the transformation of the regional airport into an innovation and technology location in the aerospace and renewable energies sector," said Zeitfracht boss Wolfram Simon-Schröter.

The company can integrate the airport very well into its activities and create a place for growth.

Zeitfracht is very interested in offering the airport and its employees prospects for the future.
