A defective cable caused a fire in a larger cattle barn in Göldenitz near Rukieten (Rostock district) on Tuesday.
As a police spokeswoman said on Wednesday, the animals could be brought to safety in time.
The cable probably ignited stored straw.
The flames caught parts of the stable, but could be contained by several fire brigades.
Rukieten - Around 1300 cows and several calves are kept on the farm.
The property damage was estimated at a five-figure sum.
A fire appraiser should examine the location of the fire again.
