A shooting at a post office in Memphis leaves three workers dead, including the attacker

The investigation is ongoing and there is currently no active threat. Local police secured the area. The attacker died of a self-inflicted wound, the FBI reported.


Three post office workers in Memphis, Tennessee, were killed Tuesday in a shooting in which the attacker also died of a self-inflicted wound, the FBI reported.

Relatives of employees at the 2801 Park Avenue branch arrived on the scene shortly after.

This was an annex where workers sorted and delivered mail without customer contact.

In a brief press conference, the FBI indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that

for now there is no active threat.

Memphis police said they have already secured the area and reported the incident shortly before 4:00 p.m.

“The Postal Service is shocked by the events that have taken place in Memphis today.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends and co-workers of the people involved, ”said the United States Postal Service (USPS).

Authorities have not confirmed the names of the victims

but local media, WREG-TV, reported that James Wilson, manager of the distribution center, is one of the dead. 

“He didn't mind going the extra mile for his job or for the workers.

He wasn't just a manager, he was a friend to everyone, ”a Wilson family member who arrived on the scene told WREG-TV.

At the time of the attack, at least 10 shots were heard and then screams, according to a person who was in the area and who spoke to the local media.
