What is cancer medicine?
How can patient care be improved?
The musician Anne-Sophie Mutter, President of the German Cancer Aid, got an idea of the situation at the Frankfurt University Clinic - and also gives personal insights.
Frankfurt - To gain insights into current cancer research and patient care, star violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter visited the University Center for Tumor Diseases (UCT) in Frankfurt.
Mother has been President of the German Cancer Aid since April of this year.
At her first official appointment on Wednesday in Frankfurt, she exchanged views with medical specialists and visited patients.
Her husband's death from cancer in the 90s made her aware of the need to become more involved in the fight against cancer, said the 58-year-old.
It is therefore "a deep, very personal need" for her to exercise this office.
Her first husband, the lawyer Detlef Wunderlich, died of lung cancer in 1995.
In her own words, it is important to the musician to stand up for cancer prevention.
In addition, early detection plays an important role.
And she also emphasizes: “We have to stand by our fellow human beings.” Nobody should feel left alone.

Mother also welcomed the offer of art, music and sports therapy at UCT.
“As an artist, I am of course particularly pleased,” she said.
And: “The music is a window into another dimension.” Where the language ends, the music begins.
UCT Frankfurt-Marburg is one of 14 top university oncological centers in Germany that the German Cancer Aid (DKH) supports.
"The aim is to bring patient care to the highest level and to advance research at the top centers in a coordinated manner for the benefit of those affected," says the DKH.
The greater the knowledge, the more precisely cancer can be treated.
Palliative medicine, which, contrary to conventional belief, is used very early in Frankfurt, also plays an important role.
"I am very pleased that palliative medicine, which is very important to me, is already being used at an early stage of the disease, because it offers many opportunities to guide patients empathetically and also to take care of their emotional well-being," said mother .
