Bad Wieseee - The long-time businessman and district councilor had already died at the age of 84 at the beginning of September. The family had officially announced his death only a few days ago. Despite the difficult childhood in Wörnsmühl, Kathan used his versatile talents with heart and devotion in order to achieve a lot with joie de vivre and care and never forget his social streak, said retired pastor Karl Hofherr the deceased. Kathan has never let himself be bent in his entire life and has always remained loyal to his friends. With a clear yes, Kathan could certainly answer God's question: "Have you used your talents on earth?"

As early as 1960, at a very young age, the car enthusiast showed entrepreneurial courage, took over a small workshop in Bad Wiessee, which he constantly expanded after receiving his motor vehicle master's certificate, which was associated with high financial commitment and risk.

But he could always rely on his gut feeling.

Two modern BMW exhibition halls were built, and word of the family company's services spread throughout Bavaria.

The company employed up to 100 people, including 25 trainees, and also had a branch in Miesbach.

Courageous entrepreneur and idea generator

In 2000, Kathan handed the business over to his two sons.

In 2009, he and his wife Martha, with whom he recently celebrated a diamond wedding, received the business award in the “Business Succession” category.

The company history of Kathan ended in 2020 with the takeover of the business by the much larger family company Unterberger.

Despite his entrepreneurial activity, Kathan was a diverse local politician in Wiesse from 1972 to 2008.

As a road clerk, he knew every mountain trail himself.

He was a member of the district council for 15 years.

"Anton Kathan played a key role in shaping the town of Bad Wiessee," said Mayor Robert Kühn in his mourning address.

Heart project of the Yacht Club Bad Wiessee

The voluntary heart project for the entrepreneur, however, was the yacht club Bad Wiessee founded 50 years ago, of which he was the source of the ideas. With extraordinary energy and great effort, the like-minded sailors created a family-friendly leisure area, a gem on Lake Tegernsee. Kathan directed the fate of the association with great energy and prudence for 38 years. He also played a major role in establishing the Hillary Foundation in Germany. His dream of experiencing the giant mountains of the world in the Himalayas for himself came true in 1993. During a visit to Nepal with local founding members, he climbed the 5,650-meter-high Kala Pattar mountain, which is a view of Everest. Kathan also valued the local mountains: just a few weeks before his death, he was still invited toSpend a day with old friends at the Aueralm at an altitude of 1,300 meters. V (from Ingrid Versen)
