At night and in bad weather: You can only go to Kastensee free of charge under these conditions

The Kastensee in Glonn can finally be visited free of charge by everyone. But the agreement between the lido and the district has a catch.

The Kastensee in Glonn can finally be visited free of charge by everyone.

But the agreement between the lido and the district has a catch.

Glonn - Finally swimming for free in the Kastensee, thought the bathing friends from Glonn and the region and were thrilled.

But with the final agreement between the district and the bank owner Manfred Lamm, those willing to swim shiver a little.

Because only hardboiled people seem to be granted this experience for free, so as not to get in the way of the private lido operator.

After years of tough negotiations and an exchange of land, there is finally barrier-free, public and free access to the lake.

Since October 1st, everyone has been able to enter the 1,500 square meter bank area a piece to the left of the water guard hut through a temporary fence with gates.

According to District Administrator Robert Niedergesäß, a permanent fence system will follow from autumn next year.

He is very pleased that an agreement has finally been reached.

"My thanks also go to the owner of the seaside resort," said Niedergesäß, "because after all, there are always two sides to an agreement."

Bathing fun slowed down at the Kastensee: more of a recreational area than a beach

The meadow is open to the public with a narrow strip of shore that continues a little to the left.

Total area: around 1500 square meters, slightly smaller than an ice hockey rink.

Even if most people think of swimming straight away, the riverside zone is apparently primarily intended as a recreational area - for example for walking or picnicking ("Please put waste in the bin"). "It is a piece of open landscape and not a public bathing beach," said Michael Ottl, office manager of the district administrator, on request. However, everyone can step onto the shore and swim in the lake at their own risk. The district of Ebersberg, the new landowner, is not liable "for typical hazards arising from nature," continued Ottl. "Regardless of this, you naturally make sure that there are no dangers that are typically inherent in nature."

But unlike other lakes that are accessible around the clock, it is not that easy to relax in Kastenseeon.

And certainly not with bathing.

Because in the warm summer months, when splashing around is the most fun, according to Ottl, the agreement during the day looks like this: "From May 1st to September 30th of each year, everyone has free access from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m." Sounds like that yes not wrong at first.

Slowed down fun at the Kastenseeoner See: Admission is free only when the lido is closed

For this, however, another requirement must be met: the opening only applies if the public bathing beach, which is subject to a fee, is closed. Usually the reasons for this are bad weather, from dark cloud fronts to rain and hail. So if you want a little cooling off in the summer when the weather is perfect, you still have to pay for it. Or alternatively wait until evening or the weather changes so that the lido closes. If the operator extends its opening times, it can be around 9 p.m. until the free access opens.

If the high season at the lake is over because the water and weather get colder again in autumn, the opening regulation is more patronizing.

Ottl explains: “From October 1st to April 30th of the following year, everyone has free access.” In other words: If you swim in the cold autumn to spring months, you don't have to pay for the private pool during the day.

The whole thing will be regulated by an electronic access control as part of a “complex fence system”.

Free access to Kastensee: the district and lido want to control admission with an app

Sounds like a turnstile that should keep bargain hunters out in good weather. According to Ottl, access is then controlled via an app that both the district and the lido can operate. According to Ottl, a sign for the winter that it is forbidden to enter the ice surface is also being planned. So there will be nothing with ice skating or ice stock sport.

"An agreement is always a give and take, and that's the result," says office manager Ottl about the property swap.

According to him, the citizens are happy to finally be able to walk by the lake in the beautiful autumn months.

There are still enough warm days.

“And the days are longer in the summer months,” adds Ottl.

"I believe that this is a very good solution." Not only for the residents but also beyond the district boundaries, the agreement is a great benefit for everyone.
