The global auto industry is melting.
The pandemic and plant closures during lockdowns had dropped production from 92.2 million vehicles in 2019 to 77.6 million in 2020. The year 2021 was to be the year of return to normal.
It will eventually end at an even lower level, at 72 million cars.
That is 20 million less than in 2019!

The main reason for this air gap is the current shortage of microchips, which are plagued by vehicles.
Manufacturers, equipment manufacturers and suppliers are affected by this new crisis which should last at least until 2023. Factories navigate on sight to manufacture cars, increasing production stoppages and resumes depending on the arrival of electronic components.
Hundreds of thousands of workers have to adapt to this accordion schedule.
As a result, the fall in vehicle registrations is spectacular on all continents.
